Mildred’s first tentative steps onto the stage would spark a half-century career. She was the first to bring to life some of the most iconic characters in American drama, from Linda Loman in “Death of a Salesman” to Big Mama in “Cat on a Hot Tin Roof.” When the curtain called, she answered.
