Lewent ’70, an accomplished business executive who retired in 2007 from Merck & Co. as executive vice president and chief financial officer, and her husband, Mark Shapiro, have pledged a $10 million lead gift to support the construction of Goucher’s Science Innovation Center, a $40 million

Goucher College is proud to announce a $1 million gift to the college from the Batza Family Foundation, which is founded by Patricia K. Batza ’91 and Michael J. Batza Jr. The leadership gift for the Science Innovation Center will support the construction and equipping of the new facility’s greenhouse.

A Goucher education is designed to help students make an impact in the world. For senior Jack Topper, the impact he made doesn’t end at the Earth’s atmosphere. Last summer, Topper brought his Goucher experiences to NASA’s Goddard Space Flight Center during his internship in their Heliophysics Science Division.

The college will receive $1.25 million to outfit life and health sciences teaching labs, as well as $750,000 to install solar panel on campus.

In 2015 Goucher launched [UNDAUNTED], a comprehensive campaign, to raise $100M to enhance our campus facilities, enrich our students’ experience, endow professorships, and establish scholarships. To date, our community has raised $80M and has completed four transformational capital projects.

For Kyani Quarles ’23, it was growing up around animals. For Anise Williams ’22, it was a passion for being able to assist wrongly accused criminals. Quarles and Williams are two of the eight science majors on the 15-member Goucher College women’s basketball roster this season.

At the Environmental Protection Agency, three Goucher graduates are working hard to protect our water, land, and air. To do so, they must be vigilant, committed, and adaptable—traits they honed long ago.

Today, Laboratorios Borinquen serves thousands of patients in Puerto Rico, with more than 700 employees working at 40 labs spread throughout the island.

The Isabel Srour ’21 Endowed Scholarship Fund provides financial aid to students, with a preference given to students interested in music.
